Framingham Reads Together

Many thanks to everyone who participated in the first townwide reading program in Framingham!
Three Cups of Tea co-author Greg Mortenson kicked off the project by speaking to a crowd of 1800 attendees who packed Nevins Hall on February 7. Selectmen Laurie Lee, Dennis Giombetti and Ginger Esty presented Mr. Mortenson with a proclamation from the town recognizing his humanitarian work of building schools in remote areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Framingham Reads Together Committee deserve special appreciation for their successful efforts to promote reading and build community townwide. Thanks to co-chairs Ruth Winett and Jeanne Kelley, Liz Fideler, Nancy Coville-Wallace, Ann Arvedon, Ann Dickson, Loretta Higgins and Michelle LeMonde-McIntyre. Thanks also to Mark Contois and the many library staff members and volunteers who helped make FRT a reality.

Three Cups of TeaThree Cups of Tea

Three Cups of Tea describes Mortenson’s near-fatal attempt to scale the treacherous peaks of K2 and his rescue by Pakistani villagers. A grateful Mortenson accepts the villagers’ challenge to return with the resources to build a school for girls. His struggle to live up to his promise makes for a spellbinding story.
